ABOUT

Discover Martine Brand’s master paintings

BIOGRAPHY

Graduated from The Fashion Academy and The Art Academy, Martine Brand learned the classical oil painting techniques, especially the chiaroscuro from her grandmother, Loeki Kleijn. Painting talent runs in the family as her grandmother is a family member of the renowned Dutch landscape painter Lodewijk Johannes Kleijn, student of Andreas Schelfhout.

Her classical oil paintings are made by painting on wooden panels. Martine uses the chiaroscuro lighting from the 16th Century as well as the technique of that time. Her sketches and dry needles are minimalistic with quick lines, where the final painting result is detailed.

Martine Brand uses her dreams, feelings and emotions to create stories and dreams rich in symbols, myths and legends. Her paintings describe sensuality and strong feminine characters, as well as a strong contrast between culture and habits, humbleness and wealth, sexuality and freedom, the classical chiaroscuro light from the 16th Century mixed with the newest fashion clothing, jewelry and accessories shown on the catwalks of the major fashion designers.

Jean-Christophe Ammann & Walter Liedtke

The conceptual art curator Jean-Christophe Ammann stimulated Martine to work on a collection of paintings. He guided her for one and a half years on behalf of the art investor Massimiliano Subba, Director of Anthea (and former Vice-President of the Global Structured Product Group at Bank of America, in charge of Italy, Spain and Portugal. Jean-Christophe Ammann was art curator at Kunsthalle Basel, Kunstmuseum Luzern, and related as art curator to the UBS Bank Hamburg, Director Ramiz Haddad. Jean-Christophe Ammann introduced Martine’s painting Alice Herz-Sommer to the art curator Walter Liedtke, art curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and known as one of the world’s leading scholars of Dutch and Flemish paintings.
Martine’s paintings were shown at the The Grand Palais in Paris, The Tsar Constantine Palace in Saint Petersburg, The Musée des Arts Décoratifs – Le Louvre in Paris, The Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Art Dubai, with the art curator Sheikha Lulu al Sabah, Art Israel, the Pierre Cardin Museum, PAN Amsterdam, Art Monaco, Art Cologne with Qvest, Cologne Fine Art, Art Rai, Art Rotterdam, Luxury Fair Amsterdam, Art Miami, Contemporary Art Fair North Sea Jazz Festival, Singer Museum Laren.

With the art curator Jean-Christophe Ammann, Martine created a painting collection that is already sold. Banks such as UBS Bank and ABN AMRO bank collect her work.
Martine works presently on a royal show at The Soestdijk Royal Palace, titled ROYALS IN FASHION, with the Queen Maxima of The Netherlands. The art curator Werner van den Belt is the art curator for this project.
